JunWe are delighted that chef Nick Holloway of Nu Nu Restaurant in Palm Cove has been named a finalist in the 2010 Young Restaurateur National Finalists list of the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence. Luke is a co-owner of Nu Nu Restaurant with business partner, Jason Rowbottom. According to their website, the Electrolux Appetite for Excellence is a national restaurant awards program judged by some of Australia’s most successful chefs, restaurateurs, and industry leaders. Their mission is to inspire, educate and nurture the emerging talent who are the future of our industry by providing money can’t buy education, opportunities, and experiences. These young people will ultimately be responsible for sustaining and hopefully improving upon Australia’s reputation as one of the world’s leading food and wine destinations. Nick Holloway & co-owner Jason Rowbottom opened Nu Nu Restaurant 6 years ago on the gorgeous esplanade strip in Palm Cove. It has received numerous accolades, most notably the 2008 Gourmet Traveller Regional Restaurant of the Year. The CairnsDining.com team love Nu Nu for its consistently high-quality fine-dining fare and for being dedicated to using local, seasonal produce. JunCairns Show Wine Awards website, in 2009 Wine Awards visitors were treated to a variety of samples from wineries as well as several local food producers. With hundreds of grape wines available for tasting upstairs and fruit wines and local produce downstairs, visitors were treated to a variety never before seen during the annual Cairns Show Wine Awards.

JunAustralian International Beer Awards have confirmed what Cairns' beer drinkers already know, that our local beer is a top drop. Blue Sky Brewery, Cairns' only local beer brewer have taken out a gold medal for their hybrid smoked wheat beer, Blue Sky Smoking Hefeweizen. Our own brewery also won silver medals for Cairns Gold, Blue Sky Pilsner and FNQ Larger. Here's the profiles of the silver medallists: FNQ Lager - So good you have to FNQ for it. Naturally brewed with fresh floral hop aromas, the colour is quite pale, with a crisp and clean flavour. Cairns Gold - Displays similar properties to FNQ Lager, with additional hops to add body and flavour so you won't even know you're drinking low alcohol, midstrength beer. Blue Sky Pilsner - A traditional Czech-style beer, made using imported Czech yeast and specialty saaz hops. With a dry but malty finish. Congratulations are extended to brewmaster Hayden Mokaraka. His 15 years experience working in commercial breweries and strong passion for beverage manufacturing is certainly shining through! Head into Blue Sky Brewery and try a flight of the award-winning Cairns beer.
JunFish D'Vine (web) besides Sebel Cairns and opposite the Casino. Of the not insignificant menu my favourite was the Matusalem Gran Reserva. The bar staff are exceptionally knowledgeable and will keep you engaged — as will the heady aromas rising from your tumbler.
