Dining Ideas - Meeting the In-laws for the first time

Meeting the in-laws for the first time is one of those occasions you dread. Depending on your temperament, you could suffer anything from anxiety attacks to mild nausea at the impending meet with the parents of your ‘chosen one’. In most circumstances, your relationship won’t have progressed to the marriage stage before you meet the parents, but it may feel like the pressure of your entire future is upon your head.

Meeting the in-laws for the first time is similar to the first date you had with your loved one. You’re on your best behaviour, you feel overwhelmingly self-conscious and you are totally unable to relax.

In light of this, you may think the best choice of restaurant for this event is somewhere you can eat and run or somewhere that has a comfortable toilet you can hide in for extended periods of time. But alas, this won’t set a good impression.

What you need is a restaurant that you feel comfortable in with a capital C. It should be somewhere you have eaten before and serves food you enjoy. If you can learn titbits of information about the restaurant or it’s surroundings, you’re in a winning position.

Needless to say, this situation calls for a restaurant that is of higher calibre than a petrol station roadhouse. Don’t go over the top – you’ll look desperate. But if you fall short you’re into for a hell ride.

Are you scared enough yet?
