The Raw Prawn

The Raw Prawn Cairns Esplanade

Another of Cairns' excellent seafood restaurants located on the esplanade, the standout feature of The Raw Prawn is the great name. But we can assure you this restaurant doesn't literally live up to the name 'Raw Prawn', because all seafood is cooked with delicacy and precision. Aside from the name, don't forget the excellent views of the Coral Sea, efficient service, relaxing atmosphere and of course, great food.

My wife and I received a recommendation from one of the local tour operators to eat at the Raw Prawn. With so many places to eat on the boardwalk it's hard to know where to eat.

They offer a 30% discount on your food if you order by 6.15PM. We took the plunge and ordered their big seafood platter at $250 ($175- with discount).

We were not dissapointed. The food was fresh and tasted amazing all cooked to perfection with their rather fussy French Chef (don't ask for your lobster to be steamed ... he just refuses to do it).

We came back a second time before heading home.

Make sure you eat here!

We were lucky enough to find the Raw Prawn early in our short break to Cairns and ate dinner there twice. The service is fantastic but the food is even better.

Fresh lobsters from the tank cooked to perfection on night 1, and the next night we had fresh mud crab (1.1kg).

If you order before 6:15pm you get 30% off your bill (not including drinks).

I've eaten in many fine places around Oz and the Raw Prawn is equal first for quality and service. They are number one for price too.

I am from Spain and I have been in Australia. I have eatten in many restaurants in Australia during my holidays but the Raw Prawn in Cairns was excellent, the food and the service.
The service is very important when you are havind a nice dinner, and I really enjoy with the waiter. He is blond long hair and he has a pearcing and a cool tatoo in his harm. The worst thing is that he was laughing about my accent (I am joking).
I will be really grateful if u let him know that it was cool and I have fun during the dinner. Hope he remembers me.
Thank you very much.

My husband any I dined at the Raw Prawn a few times throughout our holiday in Cairns from Scotland. We also took friends there & recommended the restaurant to family visiting Cairns.

On one of the occasions my husband had the coral trout cooked in coconut - it was amazing and so I asked for a low down on the recipe which the chef was happy to give me. Unfortunately, I have lost the recipe and would, if the chef is reading this review, love to have it emailed to me!!

The food, ambience & service is top class - and although not cheap, it won't blow the budget!

My wife and I visited this restaurant three times in our five day visit to Cairns in February 2004. The food is absolutely excellent. We tried a variety of dishes, including the Macadamia Bay Bugs, the seafood curry, and the wild barramundi - all cooked to perfection.

The service was also excellent, and our particular waiter couldn't have been more friendly or helpful - a credit to the restaurant and its owners.

Well worth a visit if you are in Cairns.

I recently dined at the Raw Prawn with a table of 8 work colleagues visiting from Melbourne. I had been to the restaurant many times before and was happy to visit again.

My visit on this occasion was unforntunately marked (literally) by a bottle of Tabasco sauce. I had taken the bottle from the table to add to my fabulous oysters, when , after a gentle jiggle, the bottom of the bottle gave way and the contents ended up on my lap! The mine host, Peter Horn, immediately came to my aid and was genuinely concened. Unfortunately this was the end of my night, but my colleages remained to be enterained on the house. My trousers were laundered and returned to Melbourne.

Not the sort of restaurant review you might see too often, but indicative of the fantastic service at the Raw Prawn. I shall return.
