September 2008 saw me on the way to the Atherton Tablelands, and Lake Barrine Tea House was my morning tea stop. Their Devonshire teas are legendary and the view from the outdoor balcony was magnificent.

The lake is a vivid deep blue and it was just perfect - heavenly!
The gardens were magnificent and I couldn't get over how wonderful and colourful it all was.

Cheers.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Lake Barrine recently. We rented the cottage there initially for two nites and then asked if we could stay an additional two nites! Every day we walked around the lake and saw small musky rat kangaroos and in the evening we took the canoe out and viewed the resident platypus, water monitor lizards and turtles. During the day we explored the Tablelands.

The setting at Lake Barrine actually feels very European.

Breakfasts were hearty and the staff simply lovely.

I wholeheartedly recommend a stay there.

My favourite experience while staying in Cairns was the Lake Barrine scenic boat ride. The tranquility of the lake, the clear fresh water, the birds calling from the rainforest towering over the boat. The refreshments we had while relaxing on the resturant balcony overlooking the lake. The plesant staff and the fact that the only buildings visible are the resturant and a house makes you feel that you are in your own small paradise.
We will definitly go back their some day.

We had the most wonderful visit to this spot. If you love watching Australian wildlife, take the boat trip, or better still do the 5km walk around the lake. Go quietly, and you will see a variety of wonderful creatures in their natural habitat. This place is a wonderful unspoiled treasure. I just hope it continues to remain unchanged.
