Hanuman Restaurant
One of Cairns Dining's favourite restaurants and definitely worthy of multiple visits.
Located inside the very modern Hilton Cairns foyer, Hanuman provides delicious dishes in this 5 star hotel.
The restaurant is warm and exotic creating the mood for romance and excitement. The decor is rich with chocolate overtones with interesting furnishings from across Asia collected by Jimmy Shu in his travels.
Hanuman dishes reflect Jimmy's love of Thai, Nonya and Tamil flavours. He travels extensively through Thailand, Malaysia and other countries in south and east Asia. He finds inspiration for all aspects of his restaurants on these travels - new tastes, different ingredients, antique decor items, colour schemes ... the list goes on. His travels are crucial to his striving for authenticity. Master chefs from India, Thailand and Malaysia work in the restaurants with Jimmy's sponsorship and support.
Jimmy's strive for authentic flavours has in no way dampened his enthusiasm for new ideas. His innovative Asian food and wine-matching program has drawn praise from all quarters.

What people are saying...
We have been (probably monthly) regulars at Hanuman over the last couple of years.
The food has been consistently outstanding. Over time, we have worked our way through the menu and not a single dish has disappointed.
I see that someone speculated this may be the best restaurant in the city . . . . i would certainly agree with this appraisal.
The service, particularly of drinks, is certainly a little patchy with some of the staff appear to be in the early stages of training, perhaps? The senior staff, however, are polished performers leaving nothing to chance.
What can I say - very impressive, probably the best resturant in Cairns at the moment. Have been here several times, have spent a fortune several times and haven't regretted a cent. Great food, great service. The tasting platters, and the cheese dumplings especial favourites!
In searching for somewhere special to have a dinner for my parents 45th wedding anniversary, Hanuman Cairns came up and I booked a Hanuman Banquet for nine. The Restaurant Manager rang me personally a few days before to discuss a special dessert request from the Chef - what amazing service.
The evening was sublime - everything was perfect. The service was transparent - the staff glided in at appropriate times and were barely noticeable. This was possibly because our focus was on the spectacular dishes that were being presented.
The food was a sensory delight. Heartfelt thanks to the team at Hanuman Cairns for making my parents 45th anniversary and event that will certainly never be forgotten. We will be back!
I visited the Cairns restaurant for the first time on Friday night and was very impressed . All four of us had different meals and loved all of them . The service was some of the best I have ever experienced and I will be recommended it to my friends . It was a quiet night so that may have made a difference but the staff were wonderful . 5 stars
We had heard fair reviews about hanuman so went there for my birthday. Sadly it didn't live up to some of the reviews we had heard.
It took 3 times to get my wine order correct (after which i was not offered another glass), at one point it took the waiters so long to offer us more water that i had to go & find some for my wife & I.
The serving of rice provided was adequate for probably 1 person, 4 of the papadums were not cooked properly (in a restaurant serving Indian inspired food!).
No dessert or coffee menu was ever offered (we are still not sure if they sell desserts), & our bill took 20 minutes to come after we requested it.
On the plus side, our entrees came quickly & the mains were tasty.
Unfortunately, in a town where restaurants abound, the positives were not sufficient to overcome the service. We will not be rushing back.
I went to Hanuman restaurant with my mother for her birthday as a surprise and I can tell you that she wasn't the only one that surprised. The food at Hanuman is absolutely exceptional. The service and facilities were emaculate. Hanuman really brought us back to our time in Bali, which was ten years ago. That just tells you how really good it is.
Sadly we had what was to be the worst experience and service at Hanumans. Not only did they lose our booking but we where left standing around waiting while a rushed table was put together. Then we where forgotten while we stood there! Not a very busy night so no excuses from the staff. We where then pushed into a corner and waited over 20 mins to even get service for a drink. You can imagine that by this time our patience was running thin so rather than starve and die of thirst we left. Such a pity as my partner has been to both the other restaurants and raves about them. We won’t be raving about this one.
We used to frequent the Hanuman Restaurant in Darwin but the one in Cairns is even better - It has only been open for a few weeks and we have been there twice already. Our children are 15 and 13 and they love it as well. Great food - great service. I would highly recommend eating at the Hanuman.

My husband took me to Hanuman Restuarant for my birthday whilst on holidays in Cairns just last week. We were not disappointed. Courteous service, great atmosphere and absolutely delicious food. Could not have picked a better place for this celebration.
